FORMER ATLANTIC RECORDS PRODUCER JERRY WEXLER DIED TODAY AT AGE 91. 

He was instrumental in the careers of Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, and Aretha Franklin, among others. Jerry died earlier today at his home in Sarasota, Florida - he will be missed!  Pictured left to right: Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertigen - Jerry Wexler - and Joe Turner.

IT WAS 31 YEARS AGO TOMORROW WE LOST ELVIS - AND I WAS ON THE AIR AT WHEN THE NEWS FLASH CAME DOWN!

I was working at KCBQ in San Diego - just another normal day - and then the word came down - I was playing Shaun Cassidy when the newsperson gave me the news - we spend a few minutes trying to verify it, because no one, I mean NO ONE could believe it!  I just happened to be running tape that day, but the original is stored away in a myriad of boxes.  Thankfully, Michael Haggerty supplied me a  copy so you can at least hear it for yourself.  I promise to dig up the original next year for you - and Michael!  Here it is, exactly the way it sounded when we found out that Elvis was dead……

You’ve heard me yaking about this “eye” thing I have - Here’s the story:

Thursday night, I accidently got tagged righ in my left eye.  Didn’t think a whole lot about it until when I woke up Saturday and there was more than just “floaters”.  It was (and is) hard to see out of it - ever seen a moviei when a glob of dust gets caught in the projector?  Now imagine them all over the screen - that’s what it looks likelots of black globs of dust.  I got in to see my opthomoligist on Monday - I was afraid it was a retnal tear - and that’s not good.  It wasn’t and was told it will go away in time.  Maybe not 100%, but that remains to be seen.  When I woke up Tuesday it was a little worse, so taking nochances, I got in to see a retnal specialist after work yesterday.  He confirmed the first diagnosis.  What I’m seeing is blod from the trauma - no retnal damage - just an annoying visual impedence that will go away - in a few weeks or months!  I’ve tried wearing an eye patch for some relief, but it just doesn’t work for me.  So if I get a little grumpy (hopefully not on the air!) it’s just frustration on my part for not being able to see clearly…and boy will I rejoice when it does clear up - and never ever take my sight for granted again!

GUESS WHERE THE WORLD’S LARGEST SWIMMING POOL IS LOCATED!!!!!  You’re not gonna believe the size of this monster - or what it was built next to.  Take a minute - and be prepared to be surprised and amazed!!!!!!

I always thought Issac Hayes was SO cool!  I’ll have more to say on Monday,but wanted you to hear this audio clip of Issac, talking about the most important woman in his life - you may be surprised at who it is! hayes-issac-on-a-major-influence-in-his-life.mp3

YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!  Apparently there’s great significance with the number 8 in Chinese culture (the Olympics open today - by design - on 8/8/08!) and a lot of couples planned their weddings for 8/8/08 for good luck.  Taking that cue (loose as it is!) I present one of the funniest wedding “dances” I’ve ever seen.  Even if these guys didn’t get it exactly right, I have to give them an “A” for effort - and a wedding highlight on this couple’s wedding video.  (imagine the dance rehearsal to prepare for the moment!) Plus, it looks like everybody’s having a great time - and that’s pretty great in itself!  Hope you get a kick out of it too!
